CaraLouwman (The Netherlands, 1967) is a contemporary fine art photographer specialized in creating images that tells a story. She uses photography as a mean to stage an idea and to present new perspectives on contemporary subjects. Her photographs are characterized by the use of multiple layers. She creates images that are often different from a direct representation of reality. At this moment, Cara is particular interested in portraying the interface between art and science.
In July 2017, she has completed her study Photographic Design at the University of Applied Photography (Fotovakschool). Subsequently, she was selected to participate in a one-year BredaPhoto MasterClass Course by photographer Jan Rosseel. Followed by the postacademic program From image to publication by photographer Niels Stomps at the Fotoacademie.
Cara's photographs have won several awards, including TIFA Tokyo International Foto Awards (Gold and 1st place category science for series Wonder Room: Homo Artificialis), MIFA Moscow International Foto Awards (Silver category science-medicin for series Wonder Room: Homo Artificialis; honorable mention category fine art abstract for series Look at the Household; honorable mention category fine art collage for series MOOD; honorable mention category fine art portrait for series I am who I am), PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris (2nd place category fine art collage for series MOOD; honorable mention for series Wonder Room: Homo Artificialis) and IPA International Photography Awards (honorable mention category Deeper Perspective for series Wonder Room: Homo Artificialis; honorable mention category fine art collage for series MOOD).
Further, her photographs have been exhibited at GUP NEW Dutch Photography Talent 2020 (December 2019), Atlas of Humanity in Galerie Joseph le Marais in Paris (November 2019), Anima Mundi Festival during Venice Art Biennale (October-November 2019), BredaPhoto Festival (September-October 2018), ZomerExpo in Museum de Fundatie (May-August 2017) and Kamp Amersfoort (from April 2015 onwards).
